Trump to Give Healthcare System Reform Speech in September

The Week In Health Law

  • Bloomberg is reporting that President Trump is set to give a speech in September on an “elaborate” plan to revamp the national healthcare system.
  • The speech is expected to include a policy to protect those with pre-existing conditions from health insurer discrimination, as well as new programs to help the uninsured. Also expected is information regarding a long-anticipated order to Medicare to create an “international pricing index” that would match what Medicare pays for drugs to amounts paid in other nations.
  • Information on the speech came from a Bloomberg interview with White House counsel Kellyanne Conway, who also indicated Trump’s plan would “overhaul” Medicaid and enable workers to more easily buy insurance plans outside of those offered by their employers. Conway indicated that House Republicans have already been briefed on Trump’s plan, and that an invitation would also be extended to Democrats interested in learning about the plan.
